Specialisation and Growth in the Baltic Sea Region

Registration for this EU conference in Malmö, Sweden, has been extended to 25 March 2011.

The aim of the conference is to give a shared vision of Smart Specialisation and how it can pave the way for regional development and growth. The tools and processes to achieve smart specialisation will be presented by some of the leading actors in the field. The conference will also show how EU funding can be used smarter. The importance of alignment of a wider source of finance and cooperation will be showcased.

The conference will present the results of a new study covering innovation in the Baltic Sea Region. Speakers within the field from European, National and Regional level will cover areas including creative industries, sustainable cities, clusters, personal health and active aging. The conference is linked to the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, Europe 2020 Smart Growth and the Innovation Union.

The conference will demonstrate how globally competitive niches of business can develop by strategic cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region. Since the launch of the EU-strategy for the Baltic Sea Region in 2009 a number of exciting initiatives have been put into action in order to enhance economic cooperation. The Baltic Sea countries can offer smarter solutions for a global market by working closely together. Cluster organisations, networks of SMEs and Research & Innovation centres are important intermediaries in achieving Smart Specialisation, cooperating on open-innovation platforms.

In this conference we will share some of the most exciting projects and experiences with you. We also open the floor for all of you with new ideas about how to make the region prosper.

Target audience for the conference is policy makers and officials, innovation agencies, cluster leaders and academia, as well as financial organisation and Structural Fund Managing Authorities. Approximately 350 participants are foreseen. Working language: English.
