In 2010 the Øresund Bridge celebrates its 10 years anniversary. 51 million vehicles and 194 million travelers have passed across the bridge, illustrating its huge importance and success. The vision is to establish the Øresund Region as a powerhouse that will make the region even more attractive to visit, live and work in. The main task is to ensure a long-term and commercially sound business based on satisfactory revenue from road traffic and supported by cost-conscious marketing, operations, maintenance and financing. Femern A/S is tasked with designing and planning a fixed link between Denmark and Germany across the Fehmarnbelt. Femern A/S is a subsidiary of the Danish, state-owned Sund & Bælt Holding A/S, which has experience from the construction of the fixed links across the Danish Great Belt and the Øresund. A fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt will realise the dream of direct connection between Scandinavia and continental Europe. With the fixed link which is planned to open in 2018 goods and services from Scandinavia can be placed more easily on the European market, rendering the region highly attractive for new company establishments. The better accessibility will also strengthen tourism in the region and create new jobs. Read more about this important infrastructure project on www.femern.com
