Baltic Development Forum Seeks a Committed Intern
The European Union is developing in new and interesting directions. With the adoption of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, the region is playing a new role within the EU. The Baltic Sea Region has become a testing ground for regional policies and strategies that can help bring about sustainable growth and a more dynamic integration process of the EU. Baltic Development Forum is an independent, non-profit networking organisation with members from large companies, major cities, institutional investors and business associations in the Baltic Sea Region. We work with a wide range of partners, including businesses, governments, regional organisations, and research and media institutions. Our mission is to promote the Baltic Sea Region as an integrated, prosperous and internationally competitive growth region.

BDF Activities

The activities of Baltic Development Forum include: Further support to implementing the EU Baltic Sea Region Strategy Cooperation with partners on the production of reports and strategies for the development of the region Organisation of the annual Baltic Development Forum Summit in Poland 2011 Publishing of the annual “State of the Region” report for 2011 Organizing thematic seminars and round table discussions Profiling of the Baltic Sea Region in the media and decision-making fora Initiating and aiding sector specific projects – i.a. Baltic Development Forum is chaired by Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, former Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs. Our secretariat is located in Copenhagen and headed by Director Hans Brask.

Job description

You will be working full-time at the Secretariat in Copenhagen. Some of your tasks during the traineeship will be assisting our secretariat in preparing the annual Baltic Development Forum Summit, which will be held in 2011 in Poland.

Some of your tasks will be to:
• Contribute to the different projects of the Baltic Development Forum
• Assist during conferences, seminars, meetings and working tables
• Perform general research
• Assist the Project Managers on a daily basis
• Update the existing database, power point presentations etc.
• Work with diverse practical assignments at the Secretariat

The internship is not salaried. However, during your internship you will have the possibility to establish a wide network and to attend different meetings and roundtables with stakeholders from business, academia and authorities.

The duration of the internship is six months and begins September 2010, or earlier as individually agreed.

Qualifications

You have completed minimum 2 years of your studies and have an interest in international relations. You are interested in regional development, especially within the Baltic Sea Region and its 11 countries. The internship requires good language skills in English (both oral and written) and good understanding of the Scandinavian languages, as both are used regularly in our daily work.

We are looking for a trainee, who is: Flexible and likes working in a dynamic and international environment Open-minded, creative and has good communication skills Not afraid of challenges and can work constructively with several tasks at the same time Able to work individually as well as in teams
