New Director of Baltic Development Forum

Flemming Stender, 45, Deputy Head of Department at the Danish Foreign Ministry, is new Director of Baltic Development Forum (BDF) as of 1 August 2014. Flemming Stender joins the secretariat already 1 May as Deputy Director. After 7 years, Hans Brask leaves BDF as of 1 August 2014.

Lene Espersen, Chairman of BDF, is pleased that Flemming Stender will lead the BDF the coming years: “After seven successful years at BDF, Hans Brask has decided to return to the Danish Foreign Ministry. I am therefore very pleased to welcome Flemming, whose background and experience matches BDF’s needs excellently. He has been working with European affairs and European integration for many years and knows the Baltic Sea Region very well. He has also worked with the private sector on export promotion and investment attraction”.

Flemming Stender has almost twenty years of experience from the Danish Foreign Ministry. For the past four years, he has been Deputy Head of Department in the office for EU-coordination. Previously, he has been posted as Deputy at the Danish embassy in Tallinn, Estonia, and for several years worked as Private Secretary to the Danish Foreign Minister. He has also been posted as Deputy to the Danish embassy in Rome, Italy. Flemming Stender holds a MA degree in Economics from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, as well as a MA degree in European studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. He is married to Kristina, Estonian national. Flemming and Kristina live in Hellerup north of Copenhagen and have two children.

I want to ensure that BDF addresses the rapid development and changing environment taking place in the Baltic Sea area. I am not least looking forward to the upcoming BDF Summit in Turku and to meet our Finnish and EU partners that are co-organizing the event”, says Flemming Stender.
