BDF Chairman Uffe Ellemann-Jensen and Director Hans Brask visited the City of Gdansk on May 12th as part of our preparations for the next annual BDF Summit.
The Summit will take place in Gdansk on 24-26 October together with the European Commission’s DG Regional Policy 2nd Annual Forum of the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
Lunch with Local Business Representatives
BDF invited the representatives of Polish and Scandinavian business to a lunche on at the Radisson Blu Hotel. The Business Centre Club Gdansk and the Scandinavian-Polish Chamber of Commerce are BDF’s co-operation partners in relation to Summit 2011. Together they will encourage their members to take an active part in the event as participants and sponsors. Moreover, the opportunities for future cooperation between those organizations and BDF were discussed, as well as the current economic and political situation in the region.
Among the people present at the luncheon were the Chairman of the Business Centre Club Gdansk Mr. Maciej Dobrzyniecki, the Chairman of the Scandinavian-Polish Chamber of Commerce Mr. Carsten Nielsen, the Deputy of Director General for Strategy and International Relations of the LOTOS Group Mr. Adam Loewe, the President of the Inter Marine Group Mr. Slawomir Kalicki, the Chairman of the International Paper Kwidzyn Mr. Marek Krzykowski, the General Manager of Flügger Mr. Bendt Haverberg and the Operation Manager of Jabil Circuit Poland Mr. Marek Bania.
Mærsk Line opens container line between Shanghai and Gdansk
During the visit to Gdansk Mr. Ellemann-Jensen also met with the CEO of Mærsk Line Mr. Eivind Kolding and Managing Director for Eastern Central Europe Mr. Jeff Jaroslaw Gosciniak from A.P. Møller-Mærsk who visited the city at the occasion of the launching of a regular Mærsk shipping service from Shanghai to the Deepwater Container Terminal in Gdansk. May 12, was the first official arrival of a ship using the new container line. Mærsk Line is a member of BDF.
Meetings with Gdansk University, Pomorskie Region and Civil Society
Furthermore Mr. Elleman-Jensen met with the Vice-Marshall Ms. Hanna Zych, the Head of the Civil Platform Party Mr. Jacek Bendykowski and the Rector of Gdansk University Mr. Bernard Lammek.
During the visit media was represented by the Mr. Jens Mørch the Editor-in-Chief of the internet portal www.polennu.dk that provides news about Poland for a Danish audience.
