Baltic Sea Award

The Baltic Sea Award is assigned to Individuals or organizations from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Germany that have fulfilled one or several of the criteria:

  • Made an extraordinary contribution to Baltic Sea Region development
  • Played a leading role or been a role model in the region’s economic development
  • Strengthened economic cooperation between the countries in the region
  • Developed new business concepts and research programmes
  • Capitalized on competitive advantages in the region in a new and innovative way
  • Made a contribution to the improvement of the regional challenges within climate, energy and environment
  • Linked innovators and local universities in the trade and industry
  • Concretely supported existing and growing regional clusters
  • Attracted and stimulated regional driving forces

In 2007-2009 the Baltic Sea Award was sponsored by Swedbank and given to: Björn Carlsson founder of the project Baltic Sea 2020 (2007), Ms. Tarja Halonen, president of Finland (2008), and Ms. Arminta Saladziene, Chairman of the Management Board of NASDAQ OMX Vilnius, as well as of the Executive Committee of the Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance (2009).

In 2010 the Baltic Sea Award is sponsored by the Danish Industry Foundation, and the winner to be announced at the BDF Summit in Vilnius on the eve of June 1st. The deadline for nominations were May 14th.
